The Bigger Reason Why People Should Break Up

August 10, 2014

Sometimes I like to write about life’s silly quirks, digging into every awkward little nook and cranny to extract humor and relatable experiences. Other times, I approach the subject from the highest level, taking a bird’s eye view of the topic in order to assess the broader landscape and discover what is really happening on a bigger scale. My Friend's Story Bacon sizzled on the stove as I drunkenly sliced cherry tomatoes and an avocado. It was 2 a.m. and breakfast-for-dinner served as a healthier substitute for post-bar pizza as my friend and I attempted to sober up in my kitchen. We casually started chatting again about his two-year relationship which is past it’s expiration date and a pending breakup...

My Date Was Too Straight

August 03, 2014

“He’s never heard of tapas,” I explained to my Uber driver as he escorted me to Tapas Papa Frita to meet my date. Yes, I wanted to get this stranger’s opinion on whether or not it was weird that my date had never enjoyed small, shared Spanish dishes. I’m far from cultured, and have never traveled to Spain, but I figured most people had experienced tapas, if for no other reason than an excuse to binge on Sangria. “Where the hell did my hair go?!” I desperately wondered as I stared back at myself in the salon mirror. I barely recognized the girl looking back with shoulder-length hair. It wasn’t Jennifer Aniston when she said goodbye to all those layers. Or my latest girl crush, Sophia Amoruso, whose short dark fringe gives her that extra edge. It was just Annie in horrible lighting after a long week... without one of her most prized possessions.   In instant remorse, I wanted to quickly scoop up all of the chocolate-colored locks that lay on the floor around me and somehow make them part of me again. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the long waves that used to cascade...

R.I.P. Magic Wand

August 03, 2014

Warning: If you are related to me, work with me, or are easily offended by TMI, please do not read this blog post. Thanks. For those who want to know, my vibrator is on her last leg, and so the time has finally come for us to part. It's sad. Though it can be a secretive, skittish subject, I felt like a proper eulogy before her burial was an appropriate way to honor our time together. Eulogy “Every little thing she does is magic.” I think Sting was talking about you, my wonderful wand.  We were together for 7 years after meeting at a boozy sorority sex toy party. You were hard not to notice: the life of the party. All...
